Locals Planning June Outdoor Show in Kempton
by Nick Hromiak

Saddened by the demise of the annual Lehigh Valley Outdoors Expo, Bob Dannenhower Sr. of Bob's Wildlife Taxidermy in Orefield and Rick Weaknecht of Weaknecht Archery in Kutztown, have put their heads together in an attempt to pioneer another local outdoors show with a grass roots theme.

Said Dannenhower, "We have locked in June 23, 24, and 25th for the dates of this new show which will be held at the Kempton Community Center and Fair Grounds, a location that has lots of space and free parking for what we're planning."

Dannenhower went on to say, "This is a new type of show because it's not just a come and see, but also a come out and do show."

The duo is planning an extensive line-up of activities and demonstrations along with some competitive events and contests.

"Our goal is to provide an affordable user-friendly weekend for everyone including vendors, clubs, and patrons that come to promote our love of the outdoor sports," said Dannenhower.

The energetic pair has scheduled a variety of seminars by local outdoorsmen, a 3D archery course and running deer target for traditional archers plus one for modern archers, a primitive encampment (muzzleloaders), knife and tomahawk throwing, trout fishing pond for kids, wildlife art, and taxidermy displays including Craig Krisher's remounted full size record bow buck and recend shoulder mounted rack of Chris Scott of Zionsville.  Also displayed will be trucks, ATVs, SUVs, boats, sporting dog demos, trapshooting, and rifle shooting seminars, DART video shooting system, outfitters, local rod and gun club displays, Fish and Game Commission displays, and hopefully Daisy BB guns sponsored instruction and shooting range for youngsters.

To get more ideas of what local sportsmen would like to see at the show, a meeting has been set for Thursday, March 16 at 7pm at Copeechan Clubhouse north of Schnecksville.  For directions or additional information call Dannenhower at 610-398-7609.

"We also want to make this affordable for the entire family so we've set admission at $4 for adults, $1 for kids ages 8-12, with kids under 8 free.  And Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and leaders who come in uniform get in free.  There's ample free parking plus we'll have inexpensive food and drinks available." added Dannenhower.
